Art Public: La transformación de Collins Park con un récord de 24 obras de arte públicas
Para la 10ª edición de Art Basel Miami Beach, la exposición colaborará con el Bass Museum of Art en la sección Art Public, la cual transformará Collins Park con una cifra récord de obras de arte públicas. Con la presencia de esculturas y performances de artistas renombrados y talentos emergentes, la sección se abrirá al público con un programa de performances, especialmente curado, de Theaster Gates y Black Monks of Mississippi, Sanford Biggers y Moon Medicine, y Alalâo que presenta a Ronald Duarte.
Curada por primera vez por Christine Y. Kim, Curadora Asociada de Arte Contemporáneo del Los Angeles County Museum of Art y cofundadora de Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND), la sección Art Public de este año refleja un cambio hacia trabajos temporales, performativos y conceptuales expandidos. Enfocada en un área de exhibición marcadamente definida pero variada, el conjunto de 24 obras de arte responde a las reflexiones sobre las prácticas artísticas de las décadas anteriores, con una inclinación por Los Ángeles y la Costa Oeste.
Art Public se inaugurará el 30 de noviembre con un selecto programa de performances. Art Public Opening Night contará con la presencia de Theaster Gates y los Black Monks of Mississippi, quienes responderán con canciones y versos a los trabajos de Art Public. La velada incluirá también una performance experimental de Sanford Biggers y Moon Medicine que combina imágenes del punk, el funk, el cine negro y la ciencia ficción, con la danza samoana tradicional, el budismo y música y contenido de video originales. El colectivo Alalâo, fundado en enero de 2011 por Marcio Botner y Ernesto Neto de A Gentil Carioca y el artista Marcus Wagner, presentarán ‘Nimbo Oxalà’ del artista brasileño Ronald Duarte traerán el espíritu carioca de Río de Janeiro a Miami Beach. Otras performances que formarán parte de Art Public, como ‘Transformer Display of Community Information and Activation’ de Andrea Bowers y Olga Koumoundouros, ‘Iemanjá’ de Jen DeNike y ‘Levitating the Fair (The Flying Merchant Ship)’ de Glenn Kaino, se inaugurarán el día miércoles y seguirán presentes durante la totalidad de la exposición. Dichas performances se complementarán con trabajos en diversos medios, que abarcarán, en términos de fechas, desde LOOKING FOR MUSHROOMS de Bruce Conner (1959-1965) hasta el presente.
